Course Description

The Fundamental Night Vision Operator Course is a performance-driven course built to develop the knowledge and practical skills required to operate effectively in low and no-light environments. Students will learn night vision theory, equipment setup, and safe weapon handling before progressing into target identification, IR laser application, and disciplined live-fire under night vision.

Upon completion of this course, students will have the knowledge and practical experience necessary to safely and effectively operate night vision equipment, maintain accountability in low-light environments, and apply disciplined shooting fundamentals under increased cognitive and visual demand.

Mandatory

  • Reliable Magazine Fed Rifle

  • Magazines (MINIMUM OF 3 Per Pistol & Rifle – More is better)
  • Quality Sling
  • Quality Holster (Outside OR Inside The Waistband)
  • Sturdy Pistol Belt (that can safely carry holstered pistol and 2+ magazines)
  • Eye Protection (clear and smoked lenses)
  • Ear Protection (electronic preferred to hear instruction)
  • Closed-toe shoes or boots (NO EXCEPTIONS)
  • Ammunition (500 Rifle & 500 Pistol)
  • Hand Towel (to keep hands dry for better grip)

  • Magazine pouches (at least 2 on belt)
  • Hat with brim (keeps sun out of eyes)
  • Gloves (Mechanix or similar)
  • Note taking materials (Write in the Rain book, pen, phone)
  • Sun screen
  • Foldable chair
  • Extra batteries
  • Weapons cleaning kit
  • Towel (dry hands = better grip = safer gun handling)

Clothing Considerations

  • Dress like you’re going to move, kneel, sweat, and perform.
  • Pants/shorts or durable range pants
  • Avoid low-cut shirts (brass burns are real)
  • Bring a backup shirt
  • We train rain or shine. Conditions are part of the curriculum.
  • Waterproof or water-resistant outer layer
  • Change of clothes (leave in vehicle)
  • Extra socks (huge morale and performance boost)
  • Waterproof bag or bin for gear
  • Footwear with solid traction (mud happens)
  • Dress for the weather.
